Milenda' s Opera paper

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8ZFlx8jRjo Milenda Clark Professor Roundtreee Opera Research Paper Art 211 9/26/17 For this opera assignment, I chose I’heure espagnole by Ravel. For this opera, which translates to “The Spanish Hour”, Ravel merged the Italian opera buffa genre with French mockery, purposefully setting this play in Spain.  The cast includes: Torquemada, Concepcion, Gonzales, Ramiro, and Don Inigo. It is a comedy about a sexually frustrated wife, Concepcion, who enjoys one day to herself.  One of her husband’s, Torquemada, duties as town clockmaker is to do maintenance work on the town’s clocks. The comedy begins with introducing Torquemada opening his shop and meeting his first customer Ramiro, who needs his clock fixed as it is a family heirloom. However, Concepcion is not about to let Ramiro ruin her “holiday”; she quickly rushes Torquemada out the door. Concepcion then busies Ramiro, who insists on waiting for her husband’s return, with moving clocks in a

Madame Butterfly short animation by Pjotr Sapegin

The story of Madame butterfly is a tragic one. A geisha who is taken advantage of by an American man who marries her for sex, and gives her a false promise that he will return to her. Only to return with a new wife seeking their child. I like that it was original and had the creators little touches of humor, such as the speaker giving out and needing a tap to keep playing and madame butterfly's birth depicted by a broken fishbowl that gives birth to a fish. I also appreciated the attempt to recreate the scene of the young couple making love. Sapegin went to great lengths to make it as believable as possible even with the limited move-ability of the clay-mated dolls.         I enjoyed how Sapegin displayed the passing of time and the idea that Madame Butterfly awaited her American lover with undying devotion, even to the neglect of her child. I liked how it was similar to the actual opera in that Madame Butterfly finds a place overlooking the harbor where she can wait for her

Jellyfish Ceilling Fan

Image
I had to pick two objects to put together. I decided on a ceiling fan and a jelly fish. This is how I visualize those two objects coming together. When I first imagined it I wanted to capture the idea that the bulbs would be inside the jelly fish itself and shine through it, but was unable to draw this in the way I wanted. I also struggled with visualizing the angle I wanted to capture. However, I am pleased with what I accomplished as I consider myself an amateur artist.

One of the big things that stuck out to me was how Raul overcame prejudice in his life. People assumed what he was capable of based on his ethnicity, social status, or geographic background He used peoples negative comments as fuel to improve himself and his education. He chose to assume that what other said was not coming from a bad place even if it was, to assume that it was for his betterment. One of the ways it was possible for him to do so was by tuning into universal consciousness. This allows you to overlook the individual, societal and local expectations of others and focus on finding yourself  and determining your own expectations.  Application: As someone who is mixed, black and white, I face prejudice from both sides of the spectrum. I would 100% agree in the way Raul handles it as I handle it the same. I don't let others expectations of me determine who I am or what I do. I just simply am who I am, and my faith has definitely helped me reach that point. For me, I wo
